Keyboard Shortcuts for Twitter

Many of these Twitter keyboard shortcuts use a single alphabet letter, making it easy to get to something quickly. Remember that these keyboard shortcuts don’t work in Twitter’s mobile app or the mobile browser site (mobile.twitter.com).

Twitter Glossary

Twitter isn’t exactly like every other social media platform. Therefore, you may need to learn some of these common terms used on Twitter.

Hashtag (#)A way to group tweets. A topic of a tweet, like a label.
@Precedes a username on Twitter.
BlockPrevents someone from seeing your profile.
BioThe 160-character description that appears on a profile.
BookmarkA collection of your favorite tweets.
Direct messagesA private message sent from one user to another.
ExploreThe part of Twitter where you can view trends, events, and topics.
FollowSubscribe to another user’s profile.
LikesA display of appreciation of a tweet, symbolized by a heart.
ListA custom timeline made up of various accounts around a single topic.
MentionUsing @ to tag someone else in a tweet or reply.
Pinned tweetA marked tweet that appears at the top of your profile.
PromotedContent that Twitter sponsors.
RetweetSharing a user’s tweet on your timeline.
ReplyResponding to another user’s tweet.
ThreadA series of tweets a user links in succession.
TimelineTweets for you to look at, usually in chronological order.
TweetA 280-character post on Twitter.
VerifiedAn account of an important person, marked with a blue check.
