Just when you thought Amazon’s smart speaker lineup was getting a little stale, it’s introduced a new device into its lineup. First the Echo Pop, and now, just in time for holiday shopping, the online store is dropping Echo Pop Kids. At such a low introductory price, you can get one for each of your kids, which means no more fighting, which could end up being the best present for you.
Like all Echo devices, Amazon Alexa is built in, but it uses “Hey Disney!” a new voice assistant that allows kids to hear the weather from Mickey Mouse, set timers with Dory or Olaf, have their favorite Disney story read to them, etc.
While other kids versions have cute animal designs, this one reaches out to Disney and Marvel for design help. Make no mistake, though, this smart speaker is not a toy. Among many other functions, it can stream age-appropriate songs from Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, and more.
The Amazon Echo Kids Pop includes six months of Amazon Kids+ to keep kids safe and provide more fun with Audible books, interactive games, morning routines, and Alexa skills. When the six months have expired, your subscription will continue at $4.99/month plus tax, but you can cancel at any time. Think twice about that, though, as along with this subscription is a parent dashboard that allows you to control the content your child is being exposed to and for how long.
It’s every parent’s dream for their children to learn independence, and this smart speaker will aid in that endeavor. Your child can set up times and alarms to wake up on their own, start their bedtime routine, work on their homework, etc. They can also turn on compatible smart lights, call friends and family, get homework help from Alexa, and more.
Amazon plans to retail this children’s speaker for $49.99, which is still a great deal, but you can get it now at 54% off to pay just $22.99, in either the Disney Princess or Marvel Avengers design.
