Lights and candles are often used to set the mood. Technology affords us the opportunity to set that mood lighting in a bigger and better way. This review takes a look at the ECOLOR Smart Moon Lamp to see how it can add some mood lighting into your life.

Setting Up the ECOLOR Smart Moon Lamp

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Unboxing

There are only a few items to unpack from the ECOLOR Smart Moon Lamp box – but you don’t need much. The box includes:

  • Smart Moon Lamp
  • USB-A to Micro-USB cord
  • User manual

It should be noted here that the user manual isn’t of much help. It only labels the parts of the lamp and provides the most basic instructions, with absolutely no instructions given for using the app.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Micro Usb

There is a Micro USB port on the back of the lamp. Plug the coordinating end of the provided cord into the lamp and the USB-A end into a charger. This lamp doesn’t have a chargeable battery.

One thing of note is that the cord is rather short. It’s only three feet long, limiting your placement of the lamp. If you have a longer USB-A to Micro USB cord hanging around, it will come in handy.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp On Off

The lamp is turned off and on by touching the “power” icon at the top.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Buttons

There are two buttons on the side for control: Dimmer and My Color.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp White Green Red

This provides you with a few great options, but you’ll find far more using the App Store/Google Play app. It’s important to note here that the lamp is more useful as mood lighting than illumination.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp App

Download the app, and the lamp will pair through Bluetooth. Mine paired very easily without me having to choose the device (the app works with several ECOLOR devices) or add it through Settings on my iPhone.

Using the ECOLOR Smart Moon Lamp

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Color

The first option it opens to is the most obvious: color. You can choose your desired color from a color line, color wheel, or list of common colors.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Couch

You can also pick out a color by focusing your phone’s camera on it. I focused it on my burgundy couch, and it turned the lamp the color shown above.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Segment Color

Another option is Segment Color. It allows you to choose colors to assign to the lit sections of the lamp. There’s are two-section, three-section, four-section, and five-sections options. You can create some beautiful designs.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Sleep Mode

I kept getting this annoying message. Granted, it was 1:25 AM, but I was up working, not going to bed. I created an account and tried to turn off the sleep timer option. Eventually, I was able to shut it off, but I’m not sure what I did to create the situation or end it. The option to “Exit Sleep Mode” did not work; neither did the pop-up option to turn the lamp itself on/off. And it came back the next night.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Scenes

Once I was able to clear that annoying situation, I was able to get to the Scenes option. There are several scenes to choose from that set colors, flashing, chasing, etc. These are quite fun to play with and watch.

Ecolor Smart Moon Lamp Music

Even more fun to play with is the Music option. You can set the ECOLOR Smart Moon Lamp to colorize and blink, chase, etc., to music you’re playing. You can set the sensitivity to the music, whether you want the light changes to be fast or slow, and whether you want the lights to change to the melody, follow a bubble, or just follow. Lights changing colors to the beat of the music have been around for a while, but these options make it more spectacular.

Availability

Currently, you can get the ECOLOR Smart Moon Lamp for just $24.99 after clipping the $9 off coupon on Amazon.

For just $25, this is a great deal. The inexpensive price allows me to overlook certain pain points, such as the unhelpful user manual and the confusing app. It’s still a beautiful lamp with a large light area and so many options.
