11 Ways to Prevent Discord from Disconnecting and Reconnecting

Discord users are facing a weird issue when making calls where it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting automatically. This ruins the experience, as you miss out on what was said or shown during the call. Here are several troubleshooting tips to help resolve the issue.

Discord hasn’t addressed or identified the cause of this issue, and users have been experiencing this for a while now. No troubleshooting method has proven to be the solution for this issue. Our advice is to run through all of the troubleshooting steps below until you find one that works for you.

1. Change Server Region

Discord offers many server options all over the world. This is done to improve connection speed and performance by allowing users to choose a server that’s closer to where they live.

1. Open the voice channel where you are experiencing connection issues.
2. Hover over it to find the Settings cog icon.
3. Click on the icon once to open Settings.

4. Under the “Overview” tab, manually select a region under the “Region Override” drop-down menu.

5. If you stop experiencing the Discord calls disconnecting automatically error, you can try changing the settings back to default.

Note: Changing servers while on a call will result in all members to be disconnected momentarily. They will reconnect automatically once the server connection is reestablished.

Depending on the make and model, your router may have a power switch, but if not, use the main power switch. 8. Flush DNS

Flushing DNS on Windows-powered computers can help fix common connection issues thrown by apps. It shouldn’t take more than a few moments.

Press the Win + R keys to open the Run prompt and enter the command below, then hit Enter.

If you’re using iOS, open Terminal using Finder, then type the following command.

10. Whitelist Discord in Firewall Settings

Windows Firewall

1. Open Control Panel from the Start menu, search for “Firewall,” then open “Allow an app through Windows Firewall.”

2. Click on “Change settings” at the top to make changes.
3. Find “Discord” in the list of apps and services and allow it in both the Public and Private columns. If you can’t find it in the list, click on the “Allow another app” option.

4. Click on Browse in the popup.
5. Locate the discord.exe file in the folder where you installed it. It will most likely be in the C drive where Windows OS and apps are installed by default.

macOS Firewall

1. Open Settings, go to “Security & Privacy,” and select the “Firewall” tab.
2. Turn off Firewall temporarily to find out if it is indeed Firewall that is resulting in call drops on Discord. Before you can play around with the Firewall settings, you may have to click on the Lock icon and verify your identity with the password.

3. Click on “Firewall Options,” and in the pop-up that follows, select “Automatically allow downloaded signed software to receive incoming connections.”

4. Alternatively, depending on how you set up the Firewall, click on the Plus icon to add Discord manually to the whitelist. You will find it under the “Applications” list.
5. Select and click on the “Add” button.
