1. Change Server Region
Discord offers many server options all over the world. This is done to improve connection speed and performance by allowing users to choose a server that’s closer to where they live.
- Open the voice channel where you are experiencing connection issues.
- Hover over it to find the Settings cog icon.
- Click on the icon once to open Settings.
- Under the “Overview” tab, manually select a region under the “Region Override” drop-down menu.
- If you stop experiencing the Discord calls disconnecting automatically error, you can try changing the settings back to default.
Note: Changing servers while on a call will result in all members to be disconnected momentarily. They will reconnect automatically once the server connection is reestablished.

2. Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority
This feature, when enabled, tells your router that audio packets being sent by Discord should be given priority over others. Doing so could fix the issue with Discord disconnecting and reconnecting.
- Click on the Settings cog icon near your profile name toward the bottom-left corner.
- Toward the bottom, toggle the “Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority” option.
3. Restart/Reinstall Discord on PC/Mobile
A bug or some random error could break functionality. Simply relaunching the app or rebooting the computer can help fix such anomalies. Don’t forget to save your work before you reboot the computer.
If that doesn’t work, try reinstalling the Discord app on your computer or smartphone. It will update Discord to the latest version automatically.

4. Try Discord on a Different Platform/Browser
Discord is available on desktop, mobile, and in the browser. If it is not working on one platform, you should try another to see if it solves the issue. Try using the mobile app or perhaps use Discord in a browser.
Using a browser to run Discord? If nothing else is working, try using another browser. Chrome is notoriously famous for being slow and resource-intensive. Try the Firefox, Edge, or Brave browsers. If Discord is working fine in another browser, you know it is time to switch.
On a related note, clearing the browser cache and cookies also helps. Note that doing so will log you out of all sites, so do save all open work before doing so.

5. Check Whether Discord Servers Are Down
The issues could be that Discord is down. If that is the case, there is little you can do except wait for it to come back online. Changing your server region, as we discussed above, may help.
Go to Down Detector and search for Discord to learn whether the service is facing an outage in your area. It wouldn’t be the first time. You can also check Discord Status on its official page.
6. Check Active Downloads
If your computer or device is actively downloading files or running a torrent, it could lead to call drops. Either pause the downloads or wait for them to finish before reconnecting the Discord call.
7. Restart Your Router
If there is an Internet or Wi-Fi connectivity issue on your end, restarting the router or home network could help. Depending on the make and model, your router may have a power switch, but if not, use the main power switch. If you believe it could be another router issue, there are ways to troubleshoot the router to pinpoint the problem.

8. Flush DNS
Flushing DNS on Windows-powered computers can help fix common connection issues thrown by apps. It shouldn’t take more than a few moments.
Press the Win + R keys to open the Run prompt and enter the command below, then hit Enter.
ipconfig /flushdns
If you’re using iOS, open Terminal using Finder, then type the following command.
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
9. Disable VPN
While using a VPN will help you protect data that can personally identify you on the Internet, it can also slow your Internet connection, especially if you’re using a slow or free VPN. Because voice and video calls require a high-speed, stable Internet connection, try disabling your VPN temporarily to see if that solves the issue.

10. Whitelist Discord in Firewall Settings
Your firewall may prevent Discord from properly communicating with its servers. Here’s how you can check your firewall settings and allow access for Discord.
Windows Firewall
- Open Control Panel from the Start menu, search for “Firewall,” then open “Allow an app through Windows Firewall.”
- Click on “Change settings” at the top to make changes.
- Find “Discord” in the list of apps and services and allow it in both the Public and Private columns. If you can’t find it in the list, click on the “Allow another app” option.
- Click on Browse in the popup.
- Locate the discord.exe file in the folder where you installed it. It will most likely be in the C drive where Windows OS and apps are installed by default.
- Use the search feature to locate it quickly and select to add it to the Firewall whitelist.

macOS Firewall
- Open Settings, go to “Security & Privacy,” and select the “Firewall” tab.
- Turn off Firewall temporarily to find out if it is indeed Firewall that is resulting in call drops on Discord. Before you can play around with the Firewall settings, you may have to click on the Lock icon and verify your identity with the password.
- Click on “Firewall Options,” and in the pop-up that follows, select “Automatically allow downloaded signed software to receive incoming connections.”
- Alternatively, depending on how you set up the Firewall, click on the Plus icon to add Discord manually to the whitelist. You will find it under the “Applications” list.
- Select and click on the “Add” button.
Hopefully, Discord calls will no longer get disconnected automatically.

11. Update/Reinstall Network Drivers
Old, outdated network drivers and laggy Internet could also be responsible for Discord calls getting dropped. Find out here how to update and manage Windows drivers. macOS is different, as there is no way to interact with drivers directly as in Windows. Check for system updates.
