Foldable phones aren’t new by any means, and neither are flexible screens. Way before Samsung, Royole, Huawei, and other companies released their bendable displays that could be rolled or folded, there were old flip phones that had a tiny screen and a keyboard.
That said, we’re now in the 21st century. We ditched our clamshell handsets for smartphones, so it only makes sense that the current tech should quickly catch up to future trends and capabilities.
Fast forward to 2019, and we’re now seeing different tech brands unveiling teasing prototypesor working towards releasing their own foldable gadgets.
While these devices aren’t ready to endure everyday use just yet, the dual screens are still practical and useful in several ways. We’re going to share four of the best ways you can put a foldable phone to good use.

Multitasking
With a foldable phone you have a larger workspace to run several apps at the same time. For instance, with the Samsung Galaxy Fold, you can chat with a friend on WhatsApp while watching a video on YouTube and still look up stuff on Google, in separate windows. While you could do this on a standard phone, it’s handier when using a foldable phone thanks to its tablet-sized screen.
Entertainment
Compared to a tablet, a foldable phone has a smaller form factor with a large display. If you’re always on the go, a foldable phone makes for a great portable entertainment device. It offers a more immersive experience when playing games, watching videos, or reading ebooks and articles on the go.
Photography and filming
If you’re an avid photographer or like filming stuff to upload online, the foldable phone will help you get it done with more flexibility while capturing videos or shooting pictures. You can do this in closed or open modes, and leverage the multiple cameras to get even better shots for your portfolio. One of the advantages of foldable phones is the extra space available under the hood for hardware components like more powerful processors and bigger (or dual) batteries. Larger displays come with increased power demands, though, but more improvements are being made to accommodate these requirements.
Mobility
Foldable phones offer mobility and convenience for their users. They may be thick and heavy, but you’re probably better off carrying a two-in-one device that’s a smartphone and tablet than two separate devices. When driving, it’s more practical to use the foldable phone as you have a larger display to work with when using map directions to a new or unfamiliar location, unlike struggling to zoom in on a standard phone.
Wrap-Up
Currently, tech companies are working on improving or removing any potential faults in foldable phones; some are still in the nascent stage. After all, you’re better off getting a flawless gadget than an incomplete one riddled in defects and flaws. Right now, it’s hard to predict if these phones will be a trend or legacy, plus it’s still unclear whether it’ll cater to the general public. Give it a couple of years, and they just might become more worthwhile.
