Microsoft has disabled all these methods. The GP is ignored. The registry setting is purged. They have ensured you can never disable Defender, you must deal with the fact that it eats your resources constantly. They want you to buy a new computer that has 8gb RAM and 3 CPU expressly available for running the OS before any 3rd party applications are added, so make sure you’re using a 32gb 8 core minimum these days apparently because software is so badly designed. Heck even Chrome needs a dedicated core or two to run properly these days, it’s insane.

Comment on Installing a Custom Windows ISO Like Tiny11? 6 Issues to Deal With by dragonmouth https://www.maketecheasier.com/custom-windows-iso-issues/#comment-123398 Mon, 15 Jan 2024 18:01:58 +0000 https://www.maketecheasier.com/?p=709342&update=20240115#comment-123398 The #1 issue with using custom Windows ISOs is that M$ does not get its pound of flesh.

Other than #6 (Legality) all the issues you mention apply to Genuine Windows as well.

#1 & #2 – Genuine Windows spies on the users. That sounds like malware. We do not know whether it contains keyloggers or other malware since Genuine Windows is closed source. After market software is much better than Defender and the rest of Genuine Windows security software. Relying on Defender the protection is like relying on a cloth mask for COVID prevention.

#3 – since Genuine Windows is closed source, we don’t know if it contains any cryptominers. Even if it didn’t, it seems to be relatively easy for hackers to take over a Genuine Windows system and do anything they wish with it.

#4 – I’d rather have no updates than have each update cause problems with my system. After every Genuine Windows update, there are articles online about how to fix the problems caused by the latest update.

#5 – Genuine Windows updates (#4) sometimes cause bricking of a system, too.

Another issue with Genuine Windows is that the user does not own the software. They only rent it.

All in all, I’d rather use Custom ISOs than Genuine Windiws.

Mint. Any top, best, or needed list of OS’s is totally subjective.
For me Debian based is essential. Also the Mate desktop is essential.
My picks, Ubuntu Mate, Mint Mate, Sparky semi-rolling Mate, Parrot Mate, Debian Mate and Spiral Mate in that order.

Lightweight Browser, Word Processor, File Manager, etal… Some distros try and provide a complete solution (Puppy, for example). Most stop short of this.

I’m not familiar with Bodhi. I like Anti-X for both Old Computers and for RAM-only (over Puppy).

About Pop!_OS!, I only know that it doesn’t even have a menu button that lists all its apps by category. The OS is not suppose to be getting in the way of user operations and this one does. It’s clunky and dumb.

It’s what we call “highly and aggressively opinionated” in the worst way.

If you have Outlook, you can use that as a feedreader, however the updated outlook doesn’t seem to have an easy way to add feeds, and the help feature only describes how to add using the previous version.

Comment on 8 Best USB-C Cables for Charging and Data Transfer by Sayak Boral https://www.maketecheasier.com/best-usb-c-cables/#comment-123377 Thu, 04 Jan 2024 17:28:03 +0000 https://admin.maketecheasier.com/?p=710312#comment-123377 In reply to ChiefH.

Hello Chief, thank you for bringing up but this guide mainly talks about USB-C charging cables. Although in the case of at least one example, OnePlus SuperVOOC, you will also need to separately purchase a charger to get full benefits of different charging speeds: Warp, Dash, PD etc. I currently own this device and I know how blazing fast it is. 26 minutes is all it takes me. That’s the only place where a “charger” needed to be mentioned.

Can you please share more details of your USB-4, 40 Gbps cable and its price? An e-commerce link or company web page would be helpful.

It was beyond the scope of this guide to elaborate the inclusion/exclusion criteria in full, not because we didn’t want to buy because most readers don’t care. They need the absolutely best recommendations for each category. But if you’re really interested, do wait for a future update.

None of these recommendations are set in stone. We’ll always hold this space untill a better name comes along.

Now coming back to your USB-4 cable. Which brand is it? How long have you been using it? That’s our genuine curiosity.

Regards

So why call them chargers? If a cable meets the PD standard, why doesn’t Apple certify them if Apples standard is PD?. What is the actual difference in the cables that makes them “this phone compatible or that phone compatible”? I have purchased a lot of USB cables and I have never had an incompatibility problem. My latest are USB4 cables and the will do up to 40Gbps, have a braided cover and both connectors are USB-C. They support up to PD240-W power, 8K video, and BACKWARDS compatible with Thunderbolt 3/4. So what is the difference in them and the ones you reviewed?
