Our Rating

8 / 10

I love planning gatherings with my friends. I also love making music with children. So, as you can probably guess, board game events and karaoke nights are a regular part of my family’s social life. We usually just use our television to pull up karaoke versions of songs on YouTube or use a small Bluetooth speaker to play music in the background. However, as soon as I heard about the new Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker, I knew I wanted to try it out.

So, I messaged my closest friends, loaded up on appetizers from the grocery store, and hosted a karaoke night to put this device to the test.

Everything You Need in the Box

The Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker is a three-way sound system that comes with everything you need to host your own karaoke house party (except batteries for the microphones). The package includes:

  • 1x Tronsmart Halo 200 speaker
  • 2x compatible wireless microphones
  • 2x mic holders
  • 1x 3.5mm audio cable
  • 1x AC power cord
  • User manual

Tronsmart packaged everything for easy removal and setup. Once you open the box, you instantly see the microphones, power cord, audio cable, and user manual. Just remove that layer of styrofoam and pull out the speaker.

The speaker offers a portable and easy-to-operate design. The primary controls you need appear on the speaker’s top, including the power button, volume adjustment knob, and microphone connection. You can also control the music playback (including switching songs), pair additional speakers, or adjust the lighting mode, all from the speaker.

On the back of the speaker, you will find all of the inputs, should you choose not to use its Bluetooth capabilities. This includes the power plug-in, the 3.5mm audio input, and a USB port. The USB port is a nice added bonus, as it allows the speaker to operate as a portable power bank and charge your smartphone while you continue listening to music and juicing up your device.

This back section has a rubber cover that goes over it when these ports are not in use, which helps keep them protected from dust and other elements.

Additionally, the Tronsmart Halo 200 supports up to two wired microphone or guitar connections. You can plug these components in at the back and manually adjust their volume levels.

Although I didn’t have a second speaker to test this out, the Halo 200 does support True Wireless Stereo Pairing, meaning you can wirelessly pair two Tronsmart speakers and enjoy 240W of powerful stereo sound.

Straightforward Setup

The Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker is ready to use out of the box. You can hook up a device with the included auxiliary cable or pair a Bluetooth-compatible smartphone to begin playing music. Then, if you want to do karaoke, you just need to pair the microphones and start singing.

Bluetooth Pairing

Personally, I found Bluetooth pairing to be the easiest way to connect to the speaker and control the music. It’s very easy to do, and it gives you the freedom to move anywhere within Bluetooth range and still control what’s playing out of the Halo 200.

To pair your device to the Tronsmart Halo 200 speaker, simply turn the speaker on, then look for Tronsmart Halo 200 in your Bluetooth settings. Go through the pairing process for your device (mine just required me to tap it and press “Pair”), and the speaker will make a sound to let you know your smartphone is connected.

Connecting the Wireless Microphones

You must grab two AA batteries for each microphone before pairing them to the Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker. You may also want to plug the speaker in, as its battery isn’t fully charged upon arrival (mine was 50%). Once everything is ready to go, you can power the speaker on.

The user manual is very basic and gives minimal instructions on how to connect the microphones. It said I could hold the power button down, and they would automatically sync. However, I found there were more steps involved than that. I first had to hold the power button down until the microphone’s display screen showed flashing lights (approximately five seconds). Then, I had to power the microphone off and turn it back on. At this point, it would sync.

That being said, I loved that Tronsmart includes two microphones with the speaker. Karaoke is always more fun in groups.

Awesome Audio

The main selling point of the Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker is, of course, its audio output. According to the company, the speaker’s three-way sound system, quad transducer, and SoundPulse technology combine for the perfect speaker for any situation. It is rated to output 120W of sound and gives you some options to adjust everything, both on the speaker and within the smartphone app.

I decided the best way to test the audio quality of this speaker would be to host a karaoke party with several of my friends, all of whom have a background in music. I also included the children, as we thought this would provide greater variety in song selection and singing volumes.

Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker Setup

Overall, the speaker delivered great treble, outstanding mid-range, and powerful bass sound. Even at max volume, the sound was not distorted, tinny, or rattling. The speaker also supports a wide range of volume levels, so we could adjust in small increments based on the song and who was singing.

Although it may not be necessary for every situation, advanced users will appreciate the equalizer options available with the Halo 200. You can choose between one of five predefined EQ settings or access customizable EQ settings from the smartphone app. This can help adjust specific aspects of the sound based on the type of music and gives users who hook up guitars greater control over blending.

Finally, the Tronsmart Halo 200 can connect to up to 100 other Tronsmart speakers. I didn’t invest in a second speaker to test this out, but I could definitely see this being a handy feature for outdoor events.

Basic Lights

Although the Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker primarily serves as a speaker, the built-in party lights make the party more fun. These lights sync to the music, add excitement to the room, and shine brightly even in the dark.

However, the amount of control you have over these lights is quite limited compared to RGB devices I have in my home. For starters, the spectrum of colors is highly limited. There aren’t endless color options, just the basic spectrum of the rainbow. This isn’t a dealbreaker, but it is noteworthy for those who have RGB items in their home that may also sound sync.

My larger complaint is not the color options, but the amount of control you have over the lights themselves. Within the app, you get just five predefined lighting modes – nothing else. There are no options to control which colors display, make manual adjustments, or select certain effects.

Obviously, none of this impacts the Tronsmart Halo 200 speaker’s overall performance. It would all just be “nice to have” perks for those of us who enjoy tinkering with lighting effects.

Control It All From Your Phone

Although the app isn’t necessary to use the Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker, it’s a nice perk that gives users greater control over the device.

From the app, you can control several things, including:

  • Speaker volume
  • Playback controls (play, pause, skip, go back)
  • Equalizer
  • Playing modes (Aux, Bluetooth, or USB)
  • Lighting modes
Tronsmart App Features

The app is easy to use: just download it from your phone’s app store and select Halo 200 when you open the app. From there, you can navigate through the app to change the settings you want: it’s that simple!

Powering Down the Party

Even though the Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker is rated for 18 hours of use, the party will eventually need to stop. My karaoke party lasted nearly two hours, and the speaker barely lost any juice during that time. The microphones, on the other hand, ate through at least 1/3 of the battery. This isn’t great, considering they run on AAs, so be prepared to invest in many batteries or rechargeable AAs if you plan to use the mics on a regular basis.

When you finish using the Tronsmart Halo 200, you can turn off the microphones using the power button on each one, then power down the speaker from the smartphone app or by pressing the power button on the speaker. You can plug the speaker in to recharge it, or simply put everything away until your next karaoke time.

The microphones don’t come with any type of dedicated storage, just the orange holders that are almost like a microphone coaster. Therefore, I’d recommend investing in something to store them so that they don’t get damaged.

Also, keep in mind that the Tronsmart Halo 200 only has an IPX4 rating, so it’s probably best to store it indoors and in a space that has a low risk of humidity or water damage.

Final Thoughts on the Halo 200

I’ll be honest: this karaoke speaker exceeded most of my expectations and was quite fun to use. The outstanding audio quality, alongside the easy Bluetooth connectivity, make this worth the investment, even if you just use it as a speaker for a party or cookout. The two wireless microphones made karaoke a blast, and both adults and children can operate everything with ease.

Although I would love to have more control over the party lights, I absolutely plan to use this device again. I may even buy a second speaker to make our next karaoke night even more exciting.

You can purchase the Tronsmart Halo 200 Karaoke Party Speaker for $209 on Amazon.
