If you are using Firefox, you will notice that a new feature called Firefox Relay was added to the browser in the latest update. If you are not already a subscriber of the Firefox Relay premium service, it will add an annoying pop-up, with the message “Use Firefox Relay email mask” on all email fields that you come across while browsing the Web.
Luckily, you can turn the pop-up off and disable the relay feature.
- Open Settings in Firefox.
- Click the Privacy & Security section on the left.
- Scroll down to the Logins & Passwords section.
- Uncheck the Suggest Firefox Relay email masks to protect your email address box.
Note: If the field is greyed out, check the Ask to save logins and passwords for websites box first.
To confirm that the Firefox Relay feature is disabled:
- Type
about:config
in the URL bar. - When prompted with “Proceed with Caution,” click the Accept the Risk and Continue button.
- Type “relay” in the Preference name field. You should be able to see that the Relay feature has been disabled.
Firefox Relay can help you create an alias email so that you don’t have to give out your email address to any site. Alternatively, you can also make use of disposable email accounts to get the job done.
